Athletic Hall of Fame Criteria

Note: 91¾«Æ· Connecticut State University includes predecessor institutions 91¾«Æ· Connecticut State College, Teachers College of Connecticut, and New Britain Normal School.

Purpose: To recognize and honor former outstanding 91¾«Æ· Connecticut State University athletes for their contributions and achievements in athletics.

To recognize and honor individuals, athletes and non-athletes alike, for their service to and support of the 91¾«Æ· athletic program.

Candidates: Nominees, in general, must be of good character and worthy of the award, and individuals, who, through their actions, have shown support for the ideals of the University.

Recognizing the primary importance of education and learning, the Sports Committee seeks nominees for the Hall of Fame who have earned a bachelors degree from 91¾«Æ· Connecticut State University.

Athletes nominated to the Hall of Fame also must have:

  • attended 91¾«Æ· for no less than two years graduated or left the University at least five years prior to their selection participated in at least one sport for at least two years while at the University been in good academic and disciplinary standing while at 91¾«Æ·

Nominees shall have demonstrated outstanding achievement in athletics such as but not limited to:

  • holder one or more school records;
  • recipient of the Gladstone or Rutz awards;
  • recipient of conference, regional or national honors;
  • participant in world-class amateur competition;
  • demonstrated team leadership.

Nominees who have left the University without earning the bachelors degree may be considered for induction provided they left in good academic and disciplinary standing and have earned recognition in athletics such as:

  • recipient of conference, regional or national honors;
  • participant in world-class amateur competition;
  • holder of one or more school records.

Nominees who are non-athletes may be considered for induction. The following criteria will be considered when evaluating non-athletes:

  • years of service
  • team records
  • honors from peers, professional organizations; -overall contributions and service to athletic program.

Nominees shall have demonstrated dedication to their sport and to the betterment of their team.

Nominees shall have represented 91¾«Æ· Connecticut State University in a positive manner both on and off the playing arena.

Nominees need not be living.
