Music, dance, and cultural pride draw hundreds to Afro Fest

Published:

On April 15, the Student Center Circle was transformed into a celebration of African and Caribbean culture during Afro Fest, an event co-sponsored by the Africana Students Organization, United Caribbean Club, and Black Student Union.

Afro Beats, cultural performances, and interactive dance workshops brought students, faculty, and staff to the circle throughout the day to join the celebration, connect with friends, and learn something new. The scent of traditional dishes like jollof rice and plantains filled the air while vibrant music and dancing kept the energy high.

The Africana Center hosted an informational booth and joined in on the festivities, helping spread awareness of programs and resources available to you as part of the African and Caribbean communities on campus.

鈥淭his is a chance for minority voices to be heard and represented on campus,鈥 said Brianna, a sophomore nursing major and secretary of the Africana Students Organization.
